Join the Asheville City Schools Foundation and Devon McCarthy-James from the College Foundation of North Carolina (CFNC) as we delve into the need-to-knows about college and universities’ financial aid award letters. Learn the process of payment plans, financial college decisions including student loan options, how-to-guides, and general information for mapping your future!

The College Foundation of North Carolina is a free service of the State of North Carolina provided by a collaboration of Pathways, the North Carolina State Education Assistance Authority, and College Foundation, Inc. CFNC promotes access to North Carolina higher education and assists students with education planning, career planning, and applying and paying for college.

Join the Asheville City Schools Foundation and Lea from Blue Ridge Tutoring for our Home away from Homeroom support session focused on crafting impactful resumes and essays that uplift student experiences, skills, and passions.

Lea McLellan is a tutor and teacher with a decade of experience. She has worked closely with students on subjects ranging from college application essays to ACT and SAT test prep to general study skills. She especially loves the rewarding and exciting experience of guiding students and parents through the college application process. After graduating from the University of Vermont in 2011, Lea went on to receive a Master's Degree in nonfiction writing from Emerson College.

Wondering how to navigate money and make better choices with it?! Join the Asheville City Schools Foundation and David Dowd from Bank of America for our Home away from Homeroom support session focused upon topics such as credit, saving, and budgeting. Start managing your personal finances and making great financial decisions now!

David Dowd is the Asheville Market Executive at Bank of America. David believes in Bank of America's vision with a local approach to insure the best support for his clients, associates, and community. David also delivers his passion of volunteering as one of the aspects of service impacting the community. David's desire to assist clients to achieve success and being a community activist are united.

 

The Writing Center at Asheville High

The Writing Center at Asheville High is funded by ACSF and is staffed by college students and recent college graduates who are eager to work with AHS/SILSA students. The Writing Center supports students of all writing abilities and welcomes students into an environment where collaboration is a common part of the creative process. Coaches support students with all types of writing including writing for any classes, college/scholarship essays, and personal writing projects. Writing coaches are trained to assist students at any phase of the writing process, from brainstorming initial ideas to reviewing final edits.

Sign up for a virtual appointment with one of the Writing Coaches! You will be invited to a Google Meet and can have a conversation about your writing with a coach. Appointments are 30 minutes. Please check your email for your appointment date/time and meeting code. You will hear from a Writing Center staff member within 24 hours about your appointment.


One-on-One Community Mentors

The Asheville City Schools Foundation is working to virtually partner one-on-one community mentors with current AHS and SILSA seniors to support you in applying to college and for scholarships. Wondering what to write about in your essay? Not sure where to find all of the requirements listed in your application? Community mentors are available to support you as you navigate the complexities of college applications.
