Shenekia McDaniels, a 2002 Asheville High School alumna, is now a second-grade teacher at Ira B. Jones Elementary. In 2026, she was named Asheville City Schools Teacher of the Year, recognized for the care and dedication she brings to her students each day. Shenekia is committed to creating an inclusive and supportive classroom where every child feels valued, and she also contributes to her school community through leadership roles and equity-focused initiatives. Her work reflects a deep love for Asheville City Schools and the community that helped shape her.
