Kia Rice, also know as “Virtuous” is a dynamic singer, songwriter, and rapper from Salisbury, NC, now thriving in Asheville. Her powerful presence and electrifying performances have taken her across the nation, moving audiences with every beat. Kia performs both as a solo artist and with Virtuous Music Band. Virtuous delivers a genre-bending experience rooted in Soul, Pop and Hip Hop.
Kia Rice has been a songwriting teacher for over 5 years, creating spaces for youth and adults to explore the creative space of songwriting. She fosters creativity and self-discovery by leading engaging clubs for youth. Her brand and business, Virtuous Music, empowers individuals to connect, grow, and express their authentic voice.

3rd - 12th grades
This 5-day residency introduces students in grades 3–12 to the fundamentals of songwriting while fostering creativity, literacy, confidence, and self-expression. Students learn how to craft original lyrics and melodies, culminating in a written and recorded original song. Song topics can connect to classroom curriculum or reflect students' own interests and experiences, making the residency adaptable to any content area.
The residency is designed for groups of up to 10 students to maximize collaboration and individualized support but can be customized to meet the needs of larger classes. For example, an entire class can work together to create a collaborative song, or the residency can be extended to include the production of a student-created music video.
