About the Artist
Nani began her journey in the world of hula at the tender age of four, deeply rooted in her native Hawaiian heritage from the island of Oahu. Her love for her culture, language, and dance has only grown stronger over the years. Nani's dedication to preserving and sharing the beauty of her traditions is evident in her performances at various festivals and her participation in the prestigious Merrie Monarch Festival.
Aside from being an accomplished performer, Nani is also a passionate teacher. She dedicates her time to instructing hula in her community, ensuring that the art form continues to thrive among new generations. As a professional hula and Polynesian entertainer, Nani brings the spirit of Hawaii to audiences far and wide, captivating them with her graceful movements and profound connection to her roots.
Nani's ultimate passion lies in educating others about the true essence of the native Hawaiian people, known as Kanaka Maoli. She strives to recover and share the lost stories and identity of Hawaii, providing a deeper understanding and appreciation for her culture. Through her dance and teachings, Nani fosters a sense of unity and respect, bridging the past and present while inspiring a future rich in cultural heritage.

HULA FOUNDATIONS FOR PREK & K
Students are introduced to the cultural art of hula through storytelling, movement, and music. Lessons connect with classroom curriculum and SEL standards, encouraging curiosity, creativity, and teamwork. The residency culminates in a performance and reflection circle.

RESIDENCY OFFERING: HAUMANA CLASS
STORYTELLING THROUGH HULA
Students explore hula as both movement and storytelling. Sessions integrate academic content (literacy, history, science, geography) while fostering SEL skills like empathy, collaboration, and self-expression. Students learn traditional movements, create original dances, and present a final performance.
Contact Hours: 5 sessions × 45–75 minutes = 6–7.5 total hours, customizable to lesson plan

PLACE, CHANT & LIVING STORY
Students explore moʻolelo — the Hawaiian tradition of living story — as a practice of place, identity, and belonging. Working in small groups, students identify a meaningful place from their own community and craft original verses of oli (chant) inspired by it. Together, the class weaves their verses into a single chant that belongs to all of them. Sessions connect with classroom curriculum and SEL standards, fostering empathy, deep listening, and a sense of shared voice. The residency culminates in a whole-class performance of their original oli.
