About the Artist
Linda Pannullo is mosaic artist and educator who has been creating in this medium since 2006. She was the 1st mosaic artist to be exhibited at the NC Arboretum in the 2021 WILD ART show. Her Nature's Throne is now a permanent installation there - make sure you sit on the large mosaic chair and find all 44 representations of the biodiversity of the Southeast! She is passionate about introducing this traditional art to new audiences and currently teaches at the John C. Campbell Folk School, the NC Arboretum, Purple Crayon in Asheville, Olive's Porch and Track Side Studios in the RAD. She looks forward to building community and connection through joint projects with students that encourages their creative and collaborative spirits. One of her missions is to put the "A" in STEM!! RESIDENCY OFFERING: mosaic art
All grades
Explore the ancient art of mosaics through contemporary themes, materials, and creative expression. Teaching artist Linda will collaborate with educators to customize the residency to fit students’ ages, interests, and curriculum.
Younger students will experiment with precut, safe mosaic materials to develop their creative voice. Older students will explore mosaic history, learn basic tools and techniques, and create more intricate designs. Projects can range from individual artworks and self-portraits to collaborative murals, stepping stones, sculptures, and other school beautification projects.
Students will:
Learn the history and basic techniques of mosaic art
Develop and translate an original design into a mosaic
Build confidence working with new materials and tools
Practice creative decision-making and self-expression
Experience the satisfaction of bringing an idea from concept to finished artwork
Residency Outline:
Day 1: Develop a theme with the teacher and design the mosaic.
Days 2–5: Create the mosaic by applying materials to the chosen substrate. The number of days depends on the complexity of the project.
