About the Artist
I am an artist, art entrepreneur, photographer, activist, and community organizer. I started my art career as an art instructor in the public school system. In 2018, I started Corona Fine Art. My passion for art and the environment has inspired me to do pro-bono work with multiple local organizations including environmental and mental health associations. I am constantly inspired by nature and my work reflects the beauty of my surroundings. My work also embraces the concept of women in nature and discusses freedom through the natural. I depict my Mexican heritage in my art as well. I use multimedia to express myself but I focus on acrylic and watercolor painting, printmaking, and beadwork. I use art as a tool for educating kids and adults to use their creativity, tell their story, and have fun! I love sharing art with my community, kids and adults alike and have taught people all ages. I offer a variety of mediums and have extensive experience incorporating the NC Education Standards into my art lessons.
RESIDENCY OFFERING: 3D Paper mache sculpture
Explore creative sculpture making using paper mache techniques. Students will learn hand building using minimal tools like recycled paper, glue, and scissors. We will explore form, movement, and shape and incorporate creative ideas for sculptures. This workshop can be adapted to suit a wide range of themes and age groups.
RESIDENCY OUTLINE (all grades):
Artist contact hours: 1.5 per session (3-5 days)
Session 1: introduce project and materials. Students do a quick sketch of their sculpture idea.
Session 2: Demonstration of paper mache process, examples, and students start building structure
Session 3: students continue to build, learning from challenges and adjusting design.
Session 4: Students finalize building and paint if project is dry
Session 5: Painting and finishing projects. Sharing final product and writing a brief description of their sculpture highlighting intention and story.
Learning Targets:
Students will explore creative sculpture making using paper mache techniques.

Residency Offering: 3D Mask making
Use paper mache and other materials/techniques to create 3 dimensional masks. We will explore cultural uses of masks and various styles of mask making using simple paper mache tools. Students can explore the cultural significance of masks by coming up with an original concept. This workshop can be adapted to suit a wide range of themes and age groups.

Residency Offering: Painting with CAROLINA
Explore painting techniques and apply them to different kinds of painting types such as people portraits, landscapes, animal portraits, abstract imagery etc. We will explore color, texture, and line through different painting activities. This workshop can be adapted to suit a wide range of themes and age groups. This project can be adapted to multiple themes and subjects including creating abstract paintings in response to poetry or literature. We can also do self portraits or do an environmental conservation lesson by painting landscapes.

Session 1: Students will be introduced to art elements and we will work on some examples playing with line, shape, color, and texture.
Session 2: We will share examples and students will begin their painting
Session 3: We will continue to work on painting and share our finished projects. Students will work on a short artist statement to go with their projects.
