The Asheville-Buncombe County Unit of the NC Retired School Personnel Scholarship: To be eligible for this scholarship, you must have your application in by November 6th, 2016!
The ACSF awards scholarships to teachers and staff members because we know that highly trained teachers inspire high achievement among their students. These scholarships allow teachers to further their educations and pursue advanced degrees and certifications, to stay current and expand their strategies by attending conferences and professional development, and to increase the students they reach by taking on new responsibilities and roles within the Asheville City Schools.
- Increase the number of teachers with advanced degrees and certifications in the Asheville City Schools
- Provide access to relevant and timely professional development to increase student achievement
- Meet the need for training and professional development in critical needs areas
- Ensure that teachers who directly support our most vulnerable students have the skills and knowledge they need to succeed
Application Procedure: Teacher Scholarships are only awarded once per year for the entire year. Teacher financial need, essay, and recommendations of principals are heavily weighted in awarding these scholarships. Recent transcripts of coursework are required when applying for additional coursework and a minimal 3.0 GPA is expected. Transcripts are not required for National Board Certification or professional development like conferences or seminars.
