Mission Statement
To promote educational success for all Asheville City Schools students by engaging and mobilizing the entire community to support enriching educational and innovative activities.

Statements of Belief
While board members represent the diversity of our community, those who join the board share these common beliefs:

  • Public education is fundamental to a democratic and civil society.
  • Public schools are critical institutions in breaking the cycle of poverty.
  • The education of all students is the collective responsibility of the community.
  • Community support for adequate resources is essential to the success of public education.
  • Family involvement is essential to education and communication among parents, teachers, staff, administrators and students must be improved.
  • Public schools must nurture the potential and self esteem of all students, respect each child’s individual learning style, and empower every student to become an informed, productive citizen.
Incorporated in 1988, the Asheville City Schools Foundation is an independent 501(c)(3) organization that exists to support the students of the Asheville City Schools System. Its goal is to promote educational success for all Asheville City Schools students by engaging and mobilizing the entire community to support enriching and innovative educational activities.

The Foundation is a partnership of business, industry, civic, educational and individual interests committed to maintaining confidence and enhancing community participation in elementary and secondary public education. The Asheville City School District - community, parents, and students - is served by the Foundation.

The Foundation has established avenues for community contributions that enable it to provide teacher grants, project funding, scholarships and other opportunities which otherwise would not be available. The Foundation is supported by individual and corporate contributions, special events proceeds and grants from philanthropic organizations. A 32 member volunteer board of directors governs the Foundation
