Student Academic Coach Coordination
You are Needed!!
We train our Academic Coaches to support students by assisting them with a variety of tasks that support educational success. If you care about the welfare of children, and
You can read well, or
You can write well, or
You can do math (simple problems like fractions and decimals or higher level Algebra and Geometry),
...then you have what it takes to be a volunteer academic coach in our program.
Your minimum commitment:
Three hours of training
One per week of coaching, at your convenience, during school hours (8:30-3:30)
Coaching every week for one school year (you may start any time)
Getting Started
To help ensure a good experience for you and your student, we provide multiple training sessions where you will:
Meet Others Like Yourself: Successful coaches have wonderful stories to share about their experience.
Learn to Connect with Students: Do you know what is on the minds of middle school students today? Have you had experience with children of another race or income level? Making a good connection facilitates the learning process.
Review Planning Materials: Academic Coaching is a process of meeting with the student’s teacher, planning the sessions, gathering materials, assisting the student and evaluating progress.
Get Great Tips: Knowing how to read or do math doesn’t automatically make someone a good academic coach. We will help you become an effective coach—so you can feel successful.
Receive Useful Handouts: Everything you need to get started in one handy reference manual, including tips for connecting with students, literacy and math techniques and school calendar.
